William and Rose Blacker: One family's journey to America

William Edwin Blacker (1880-1950) met Rose Allen (1888-1941) in Mountain Ash, Wales.  Their marriage began in 1908 and over the next three decades endured the birth of five children, a trans-Atlantic journey to a new country, World War II, and the early loss of their youngest son.

This digital exhibit highlights the good humor, dedication, and love that the Blacker family shared as an enduring tribute and legacy for generations to come.

Comprised largely of image files from the family's papers, the Blacker Family collection covers the years prior to the family's emigration from Great Britain in the late 1920s through the latter years of the Blacker children in the late 1980s.

This collection was digitized by various family members, including a bulk of the family photos inherited on the passing of Sylvia May's daughter Marie Louis South in 2009 by great-granddaughters Allie Hoopes and Ash Parker.  This exhibit is presented as part of Ash Parker's graduate coursework at the University of Southern Mississippi.  The digital collection is intended for short-term preservation with the primary goal being description and access.
